Our elementary school consists of grades Kindergarten through 5th grades and is housed on the first level of our school building. Currently, Ms. Kathleen Howay teaches grades K-1-2, while Mrs. Amy Ross teaches grades 3 through 5. The number of grades each teacher teaches could change depending on how the student population is dispersed each year. Even so, it is typical for teachers to have only between 5 and 15 students in their class at any given time; that’s how small we really are!

The elementary students do many fun activities throughout the school year in addition to rigorous academic work. They take part in many field trips out-of-town, like going to Green Bay, Mackinac Island or Mackinaw City to learn about history and have fun at places like Mill Creek or water parks. Within our immediate local region, they travel to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore with Ranger Dave to learn about our natural surroundings and to other places like our very own Burt Township School Forest and to the Seney Wildlife Refuge. Helping in the school garden, performing in the annual Christmas Program, attending plays at NMU and our own high school include just some of the fun extras our elementary students do.
